Castle to Castle

Updated: Jun 4, 2019

My next journey is an atempt to venture further from Arran though find myself becalmed after a wild windy start to the day. The 20 mph wind pushed us up past Brodick and Corrie only to find us drifting not far from the northern harbour Lochranza. A short motor with a spot of fishing along the way and we arrive at the pleasent naturally formed shelter. The historic castle sits in the middle of the bay on a spit of gavel, a short walk from the modern pontoon equivalant. Amazing examples of Wooden boats shelter in the inner estuary, scattered alongside boating equipement and abandond boating projects.

The following day in the thin breeze a short sail is attempted across the waters to skipness. A perfect anchorage and place to explore. More castles, history and an amazing rocky beach. Luckly the wind is just right for the otherwise exposed and bay. And so my journey from castle to castle is completed. At times it seems like I am following old paths, seaways. From the castle at skipness the view back across to arran shows every small boat and craft weaving through the water. The desire for wind and a heading.

The following day a gentle sail back to lamlash and preperations for my next adventure.
